Story
NAME Emily Phillips
OCCUPATION Classroom Support Assistant
GROUP NAME Mirror Ball Mavericks
I grew up in Hoskinstown NSW, where is this you ask? just near Bungendore, with Mum, Dad and older brother Tom.
One fine evening I stumbled across a handsome farmer/builder Digby and a little while later decided to move to Bombala (just over 3 years ago now!) so I can nearly consider myself a local.
I have a background in interior architecture and worked in the industry for a few years. Growing up, I always wanted to be a fashion designer or artist, but the creative flare is yet to bust it’s moves out into the world just yet, but we will see!
The wonderful Bombala Community have encouraged and welcomed me into the town. I’ve been able to experience a couple of jobs since moving, think a small stint roustabout, ‘apprentice’ (according to foreman Digby) sheep farmer/ builder, and have enjoyed being involved in footy, as a major rookie in all I must add! but I’ve had a great time none the less, plus I’ve be able to meet so many new and interesting people along the way, which has been a thrill.
I currently work at St Joseph’s Primary. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to work in classroom support and the role has proven to be my most fulfilling yet, allowing me to discover a strong interest in education. The St Joseph’s community is beyond amazing and I’m so grateful to work with such an inspiring group of people.
On my current happiness agenda, you’ll find me dabbling in being an occasional gym goer (group classes only) or simply at the beach, and quite frankly can’t go past a sunny day on the farm. Oh, and a divine long lunch is a must!
I feel very honoured and privileged to be invited to participate in this amazing production, thank you to the incredible organisation mcCr for this wonderful opportunity to make a difference!
Like many of us, I have supported, and continue to support, friends and family members who have been affected or are living with the battles, challenges and loss that Cancer undoubtably brings. The fragility of life is very much reminded to us in these times and shows us the importance of organisations and strong community bonds that enable us to have support and strength alongside us.
I look forward to doing all I can to help, raise money with a remarkable team and step out of my comfort zone by performing in this spectacular show!
Monaro Committee for Cancer Research Incorporated
The Monaro Committee for Cancer Research was formed in 1996 by the daughter of a young Monaro mother who after a 5 year struggle lost her battle with cancer. Since its inception the mcCr has supported cancer outreach services on Snowy Monaro. In 2007 after much lobbying, a local oncology service was introduced to the Cooma Hospital. Local support raised in excess of $100,000 towards this project and today we have a successful outreach oncology service. mcCr is a local voluntary group of dedicated women working towards further cancer support and services for the Snowy Monaro Region.Your support will enable mcCr to continue this assistance for cancer sufferers.
